The GAN 356 ME 10 Years Classic Gift Set is a magnetic 3×3 speed cube marketed for kids. It commemorates GAN’s 10th anniversary with a special edition cube and packaging. In this review, we look at how it performs in real-world settings, its key features, and where it might fall short.
In practice, this cube is used by children and beginners for casual solving, time trials, and learning finger tricks. It’s also a collector’s item for GAN enthusiasts. The magnetic mechanism provides a stable feel, and the cube is pre-lubricated and tensioned, so it’s ready out of the box. The gift set includes a display stand, a carrying bag, and a set of stickers, making it a complete package for gifting.
Key functional features include a magnetic positioning system that helps with alignment during fast turns. The cube uses a dual-adjustment system for tension and elasticity, allowing fine-tuning to personal preference. The stickers are vibrant and made of durable PVC. The cube weighs about 80 grams, which is typical for magnetic 3x3s. The plastic has a matte finish that resists fingerprints.
One limitation is that the cube may be too fast for absolute beginners. The magnetic strength is moderate, but the cube can still overshoot if turned aggressively. Also, the gift set’s extras are nice but not essential, and the price is higher than a standard GAN 356 ME. For pure performance, a non-anniversary version might suffice.
Compared to a Rubik’s brand cube, the GAN 356 ME is significantly smoother and faster. However, it’s also more expensive. For kids who are just starting, a budget magnetic cube like the MoFang JiaoShi might be more appropriate. But for those who want a quality cube that can grow with them, the GAN is a solid choice.
This cube is suitable for kids aged 8 and up who have some interest in speedcubing, and for collectors who appreciate limited editions. It’s not suitable for very young children (under 6) due to small parts, or for those who prefer a slower, more controlled cube. Also, if you’re on a tight budget, the standard version offers the same performance without the extras.
Overall, the GAN 356 ME 10 Years Classic Gift Set is a well-made magnetic cube with a nice presentation. It performs well for intermediate solvers, but the premium price and fast feel might not suit everyone. It’s a thoughtful gift for a young cuber who is ready to move beyond a basic cube.
